Upper Merion Township is fortunate to be served by three (3) completely volunteer fire companies: the Swedeland Volunteer Fire Company, Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company, and the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company.

During 1999 the three companies responded to 1289 emergency calls. The calls included structural fires, alarm activations, car fires, and vehicle rescues.

The fire companies train on a regular basis to keep their skills up to date. If you should see them training in your neighborhood, walk on over and take a look at some of the tools and equipment used by the firefighters. If you are interested in joining, stop by your neighborhood fire station and talk to the chief.

The Township is also served by the Lafayette Ambulance Squad. The Lafayette Ambulance is a volunteer squad with paid staff during the weekday hours. The squad is proud to boast three (3) fully equipped PA State Licensed Advanced life Support Ambulances (Paramedic).

During 1999, the ambulance squad responded to 2,153 emergency calls. The calls included: cardiac, respiratory, vehicle accidents, and other calls.
