Permit Fee Schedule
Construction/Building Permit Fee Information

The following permit fees were adopted on December 10, 2015 for the 2016 Calendar year.
  • ALL PERMIT FEES DUE UPON SUBMITTAL OF PERMIT APPLICATION. (Permit Fee includes plan review and inspections by Upper Merion Township Inspectors*)               * Electrical inspection utilizes 3rd party inspection agencies.
  • CHECK PAYABLE TO UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP.
  • $4.00 PA state code surcharge on all permits, except zoning permits.
  • $50   Re-inspection fee (for residential and commercial permits)  Applies to all failed inspections due to workmanship or missed appointments.  Payment required prior to issuance of Use and Occupancy Permit or next inspection
  • $50  Revision Plan Review fee for revised plans submitted after initial Permit Review.
  • $50  Contractor Name Change fee for Changing Contractor name after Permit Issuance.
  • EXPEDITED PROCESSING FEES:  All listed fees will be doubled for Expedited Request or for Permit applications submitted after a job has started or after a job has been completed.

Residential Construction

New single family dwelling: Including garage and basement area
  • $0.20 per gross square foot
Multiple family dwelling: Including hotels, motels, convents, nursing homes, dormitories, or similar use
  • $400 per unit and $60 per each 250 square feet of accessory use space
Additions, alterations, in-ground and above-ground pools over 24 inches in depth, and miscellaneous construction: Including accessory structures (garages, carports, sheds) over 120 square feet, decks, patios, etc.
**Stormwater Permit required for any new impervious surface/coverage.
  • $40 for the first $1,000 estimated construction costs
  • $30 for each additional $1,000 of estimated construction costs
Accessory Structures under 120 square feet
  • $ 60  ZONING COMPLIANCE REVIEW REQUIRED.

Use and Occupancy Permit
  • $70 per unit
  • $30 accessory use fee

Non-Residential Construction
The square foot area of the buildings referred to in this fee calculation will be computed by adding the area determined from outside measurements at each 10-foot interval from the basement floor to the ceiling of the upper most story, each 10-foot interval being calculated as an additional story. That portion of any extension beyond 10 feet intervals shall be calculated on the proportionate basis.

  • $230 for first 1,000 square feet, or fraction thereof
  • $125 for each additional 1,000 square feet, or fraction thereof

Alterations, interior fit out of new construction,   tenant fit-outs in existing buildings, pools or spas, and miscellaneous construction

  • $40 for the first $1,000 estimated construction costs
  • $30 for each additional $1,000 estimated construction costs, or fraction thereof
Use and Occupancy Permit
  • $125 for gross floor areas less than 10,000 square feet
  • $230 for gross floor areas greater than 10,000 square feet
  • $50 for business name change
  • $70 Accessory use
Temporary buildings: Including trailers and construction trailers
  • $55 per trailer

Electrical Permit:  Residential & Commercial
Third party inspection required (no permit required for residential replacement of receptacles, switches, or lighting fixtures that are less than 20 amps or 150 volts, doorbells, communication systems, dishwashers, range hoods).
  • $40 for the first $1,000 of estimated construction costs
  • $30 for each additional $1000 of estimated electrical construction cost of fraction thereof

  • $40 for the first $1,000 of estimated construction costs
  • $30 for each additional $1,000 of estimated construction costs, or fraction thereof
