To maintain an effective response capability to natural and man-made emergencies through planning and efficient use of human resources and equipment.
Upper Merion Township is fortunate to be served by three completely volunteer fire companies: the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company
, the Swedeland Volunteer Fire Company
, and the Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company
During 2014, the three companies responded to over 1,200 emergency calls. They included:
The Township is also served by the Lafayette Ambulance and Rescue Squad. The squad is a combination department with volunteers and paid staff and is proud to boast three fully equipped state-licensed Advanced Life Support ambulances (paramedics) and a rehabilitation response unit to support fire company operations during emergency incidents.
- Alarm protection system troubleshooting
- Assisting neighboring municipality fire departments
- Field and brush fires
- Fire, police, and public service calls
- Fire prevention and life safety education
- Hazardous materials incidents
- Structural and vehicle fires
- Vehicle and other types of rescue calls
In addition, Lafayette has a community training program that teaches CPR, first aid, and emergency responder training classes to the community and businesses in the Upper Merion Area.
During 2014, the ambulance squad responded to over 2,800 emergency calls. The calls included:
- Fall victims
- Vehicle accidents
- Other medical calls
The Fire and Rescue Services Division train on a regular basis to keep their skills up to date. If you should see them training in your neighborhood, walk on over and take a look at some of the tools and equipment used by the firefighters.
