Documents Required for Residential Permits
This listing indicates the required documentation for each permit.
All permits must be submitted with payment.   FEE SCHEDULE

PERMIT REVIEW TIME:  PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 15 BUSINESS DAYS
PERMIT INSPECTION TIME: 24 HR. NOTICE REQUIRED

Fence around a pool OR
 Fence > 6 ft. high     
        
Building Permit Application and Fence Addendum with drawing of location of fence on site plan of property
 (No Permit needed for Fences < 6 ft. high without pool) 
Fence Sight Line Requirements for Fence placed near a street


Shed or Detached Garage
Deck               
Driveway (new or expansion of existing)
  • Road Opening Permit (if doing work in the Right of Way/driveway apron)
  • Plot plan showing all new and existing structures and impervious coverages. (sample plot plan)
  • No permit required for resurfacing existing driveway. (same size, same location)

     
**Residential Use & Occupancy**
NO USE & OCCUPANCY PERMIT IS REQURED FOR CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP OF SINGLE FAMILY DWELLINGS in Upper Merion Township, provided the use of the dwelling remains the same.

Building Permit application (check off Electric)
•Schematic drawing (2 copies)
For Generator Installation: include Site Plan with location of generator, note setbacks from property lines and house and location of gas line.
•Spec sheet of Generator
(for Electric permit job cost: DO NOT include Cost of Generator)
Mechanical Permit Application for Gas Line installation 


Tank
Demolition Permit for Demolition of House or Building 
   

Contractors
All residential contractors need to be registered with the State of Pennsylvania and provide their Pennsylvania HIC# on the application and current Certificate of Insurance.


Required Setbacks for Accessory Use (Pool, Shed, Detached Garage) 
        Zoning 
  • R-1 and R-1A: 10 feet from side property line and 10 ft. from rear property line
  • R-2 and R-3: Four feet from side and five feet from rear
  • R-2A: Seven feet from side and eight feet from rear
