On February 21, 2008, the Upper Merion Township Board of Supervisors adopted a Curfew Ordinance for Minors (any person under the age of eighteen) regulating their conduct at night. A summary of this ordinance is listed below.
- It shall be unlawful for a person under the age of eighteen to remain in any public place between the hours of 10:30 pm and 6:00 am. On Friday and Saturday nights the curfew begins 12:00 am (midnight).
- This curfew does not apply to a minor accompanied by a parent/guardian, a minor who is on legitimate business at their parent’s/guardian’s direction, or a minor who is gainfully employed during the curfew hours. Legitimate emergencies, activities of volunteer firefighters, or written reasonable permission from a parent or guardian may also be considered as an excuse from the curfew ordinance.
- It is unlawful for the operator of any establishment or his/her employees to knowingly permit a minor to remain in the establishment during the listed curfew times.
- Penalties for violating this Ordinance range from a verbal warning up to a $50.00 fine plus court costs for the first offense. Subsequent violations increase up to a $300.00 fine plus court costs.
