Reading Buddy Program Are you just learning to read? Be a little buddy! Do you enjoy working with younger children? Be a big buddy! The Upper Merion Township Library's Reading Buddy program pairs older children (4th through 12th grade) with younger children (K through 2nd grade) to improve the younger children's reading skills and encourage a love of reading. By reading with an older child, younger children gain confidence in their reading abilities and encounter a positive role model to emulate. Older children gain the opportunity to enrich the life of a younger child and also gain satisfaction through volunteering. Once the buddies are matched up, the big buddy contacts the family of little buddy and arranges a mutually convenient schedule for them to meet and begin to read. Their meetings typically last 20 - 30 minutes and take place at the library. If you would like further information on this program or would like to register, please contact Jeanne Kauffman at (610) 265- 4806. |
