Sewer Plants (better known as Wastewater Treatment Facilities)

Upper Merion Township has two wastewater treatment facilities. The Trout Run Wastewater Plant, on Mancill Mill Road, treats an average of 2.8 million gallons of wastewater per day emanating from the western half of the Township. The Matsunk Wastewater Plant, on River Road, also treats approximately 2.8 millions gallons of wastewater daily which comes from the east half of the community. These two plants, each with a design capacity of 6 million gallons per day, are assisted by 10 pumping stations to serve the needs of 8,581 private residences and 793 commercial establishments.

Residential Sewer Bills are billed quarterly: 1st quarter (covering January-March) billed April 30; 2nd quarter (for April-June), billed July 30th; 3rd quarter (for July-September) billed October 30th; and 4th quarter (for October-December) is billed January 30th. Residential sewer billing rates are: $42.00 per quarter for residences without a garbage disposal unit or $52.00 per quarter for residences with a garbage disposal as set forth in Ordinance No.2005-751. The Sewer Revenue Department must be contacted prior to installing or removing a garbage disposal unit. Commercial establishments are billed according to the provisions of Ordinance No.2004-731.
