Aqua Pennsylvania will replace aging 6-inch cast iron water mains on the following streets in Upper Merion Township as part of their continuing infrastructure improvement program.
- Croton Road from Fletcher Road to Kathwood Lane.
- Kathwood Lane from Croton Road to the cul-de-sac.
New water mains reduce the potential for main breaks and discolored water, and improve water flow in the area. Aqua installed nearly 40 miles of new main to improve service reliability for Montgomery County customers in 2018.
The $413,711 project is scheduled to begin on October 4, 2019 with the installation of 3,337 feet of 12-inch ductile iron pipe, with completion expected in December. Aqua will have an inspector on the job each day to answer your questions.
Following the installation of the new water main, there will be a period of time during which the main will be chlorinated and tested before being put into service. During this phase, activity on the job site will be limited. Once testing has been completed, we will transfer each water service and any fire hydrants onto the new main. It is important to note that the trench will be covered with temporary blacktop at the end of each workday. Once all of the activity described has been completed, a permanent restoration will follow in about 30 to 60 days.
Construction will typically take place weekdays between 9:00AM and 3:00PM. Access will be provided for emergency, mail, school buses and trash services. Residents will have access to their properties, but at times will need to enter from a different direction due to changing work zones. We will notify customers 24 hours in advance of any scheduled shutdown, however, as with any construction project, an emergency shutdown might be necessary. If so, we will restore service as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding the project, please contact Superintendent of Construction Mike Staerk at (215) 659-2505 ext. 56005. Should you have an emergency, including a water quality issue, please call Aqua’s Customer Service Department or Emergency Dispatcher at (877) 987-2782.
