With the great success of our first Smoke Alarm Blitz in the Swedesburg section of the township, we are excited to announce our second blitz! On Saturday, June 8, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, we will host our second event in the Swedeland section of the township.
Every day, seven people die in home fires, most often because of faulty or missing smoke alarms. The American Red Cross is aiming to change that by canvassing neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms, and educate families about fire prevention. At our first blitz on April 27, a group of awesome volunteers joined us in canvassing the Swedesburg community to install over 250 free smoke alarms.
Residents of Swedeland will receive a door hanger the week before the event with more information and to let you know the volunteers will be in the area on June 8. You do not have to take any other action. If you are not available on that date but still want to participate, or if you have any questions about special needs alarms or anything else related to smoke alarms, a special hotline has been set up for questions: 484-636-3945.
If you’re interested in volunteering at the event or want more information, contact Bill Daywalt, Deputy Fire Marshal, at 610-205-8554 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
