On Thursday, January 17, 2019 at about 1030PM, the Upper Merion Police Department was made aware of a threat of violence against the Upper Merion Area School District. This threat, which came via Twitter, references an individual coming to school tomorrow with a handgun to commit acts of violence. The Upper Merion Police Department immediately began an investigation into this threat. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was contacted to assist in this matter. This is still an active investigation and we are not ready to release more information at this time. The Upper Merion Area School District made the decision to close schools today out of an abundance of caution pending the outcome of our investigation.
